Cleanup Action: Hakalau Bridge & Beach Park Lead Contamination (10/20/2016)

The HEER Office is overseeing a lead assessment and response action being conducted by the State Department of Transportation, Highways Division (DOT) at the Hakalau Stream Bridge site on Hawaiʻi Island. The soils near the base of the bridge columns were found to contain high levels of lead, presumably from lead paint used on the bridge long ago (lead-based paint was removed from the bridge by DOT about 15 years ago). A soil assessment to determine the extent and magnitude of the soil lead contamination is under way. For more details, see the link below:
