Positive Test Results

Start Treatment

People living with HIV can live long and healthy lives. Connect with a health provider, and show them your TakeMeHome test results to start HIV treatment.

If you need help connecting with a health provider and finding other resources, visit our HIV Case Management webpage.

Learn more about HIV here.

Let your partners know

A trained health department staff person will reach out to help you get medical care and other support you may need.

They can also assist with Partner Services, a voluntary and confidential program to support partners of persons living with HIV. Staff will help to tell your sex and needle sharing partners that they may have been exposed to HIV. Partner Services does not require that you actively tell your partners anything. Staff will never tell your partners about you, when you were tested or when they may have been exposed. When partners learn that they may have been exposed to HIV, they can get tested or treated quickly.

If you have not been contacted and want help with linking to care or notifying partners, call the Partner Services Coordinator at (808) 733-4383.

Get treatment

Gonorrhea, chlamydia and syphilis are all common sexually transmitted infections (STIs) that can be treated with antibiotics. Connect with a health provider, and show them your TakeMeHome test results to discuss treatment.

If you don’t have a provider you can contact the STI/HIV Clinic at Diamond Head Health Center  if you are in the Diamond Head area, or see our STI/HIV testing and resource page.

Note: If your TakeMeHome test is positive for syphilis, your health provider will need to do another test before deciding on treatment.

Let your partners know

Telling partners about your results will help make sure they can get tested and treated quicky. If you want to tell your partners without using your name, TellYourPartner.org can send a text message for you.

A trained health department staff person may also reach out to some people to help you get medical care and other support you may need, including telling your partners.

Hold off on sex for now

STIs can be easy to pass on to partners. It is recommended to wait at least 7 days after finishing all medicine before having sex without a condom.

Make testing a regular thing

You can get tested every 3-6 months as part of your regular health routine!

Ask about DoxyPEP!

DoxyPEP (Doxycycline Post-Exposure Prophylaxis) can be taken after condomless sex to prevent syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea. Talk to your provider to see if it is right for you.

If you do not have a provider, or would like to find out more about DoxyPEP, visit our DoxyPEP webpage here.

Get another test to confirm your results

Ask your health provider or clinic to get a hepatitis C RNA test.  The RNA test will tell you if you still have hepatitis C in your blood and if you need treatment.

Start treatment

Hepatitis C is curable! The treatment can clear the virus from your body and prevent liver damage. Most people can be cured in 8 to 12 weeks!

Let your partners know

Telling your sex or injection drug partners about your results will help make sure they can get tested and treated quicky.

Make testing a regular thing!

If you are exposed to blood often (such as sharing needles), you should get tested at least once a year.
