Herpes

Genital herpes is a common STI caused by two types of viruses: herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2). Oral herpes is usually caused by HSV-1 and can present as cold sores or fever blisters on or around the mouth. Most people with the virus do not have symptoms, however they can still spread it to sex partners. There is no cure for herpes but there are treatments that can prevent or shorten outbreaks. Although genital herpes is not a reportable disease, it’s estimated that one out of every six people aged 14 to 49 have it.
