Beach Safety Week and Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month

Hawaii observes Beach Safety Week August 22-28, 2021. September is Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Awareness Month and each year in Hawaii, approximately 150 people seek medical treatment for an SCI. Ocean activities, including being “tossed by a wave”, bodyboarding, bodysurfing, surfing, and diving into the water, are the second leading cause of SCI in Hawai‘i, after falls.
