Hawaii Hemp Task Force

Act 263, SLH 2023, created the Hemp Task Force to be jointly convened by Hawaii Department of Agriculture and Hawaii Department of Health to gather data and information to better understand the hemp industry. Funding for a hemp consultant was also appropriated to help the Task Force in identifying the infrastructure needs of Hawaii hemp farmers and the hemp industry, considering the unique needs and geographic spread of licensed hemp farmers and the various hemp sector needs.

The Task Force consists of hemp producers from each island proportionate to the total number of USDA hemp licenses issued, and sector representative for fuel, building, general fiber, cannabinoid, and grain food sectors. The Task Force will be dissolved on August 30, 2024 and will report its findings and recommendations, including any proposed legislation, to the legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the regular session of 2025.
