Prepare NOW Hawai’i is an initiative designed to enhance community resilience and readiness for emergencies. Prepare for emergencies and disasters using the acronym NOW:  Necessities, Organization, Wellness:

    • N = Necessities: Identify essential items and resources you need to sustain yourself and your family during an emergency for two weeks. Take 10 guide:
    • O = Organization: Create a structured plan for how you will respond to various emergencies, including roles for family members and communication plans.
    • W = Wellness: Focus on both physical and mental well-being, ensuring that you and your loved ones are prepared to cope with the stress of emergencies.

By focusing on these elements, Prepare NOW Hawai’i aims to empower individuals and families to be proactive in their efforts to prepare for emergencies where they live, work, gather, and travel.

    1. Make a Plan: Create an emergency plan for everyone in your household that outlines what to do in different scenarios, including evacuation routes and communication strategies.
    2. Build a Kit: Gather essential supplies for everyone you live with, such as food, water, medications, important documents, comfort items, flashlights, batteries, radios, and other necessities, in a designated emergency bag for easy access during a crisis.
    3. Stay Informed: Keep updated on emergency information before, during, and after an event through reliable sources like local news, emergency alerts, and community resources.

 

The Hawai’i Department of Health (DOH) is committed to promoting the health and safety of the people of Hawai’i. This includes helping residents and visitors prepare for weather disasters, and other emergencies, such as outbreaks and pandemics.
