Electronic Device Recycling (Electronic Waste Recycling)

Electronic devices include computers, computer printers, computer monitors, portable computers with a screen size greater than four inches measured diagonally, and televisions with a viewable screen of nine inches or larger.

Deposit Beverage Container Recycling

Since January 2005, Hawaii’s Deposit Beverage Container (DBC) program has assisted residents to recycle over 10 billion containers.  Through recycling, consumers are helping to remove these containers from the waste stream and also reducing litter in the community.

Glass Advance Disposal

Effective since September 1, 1994, the Hawaii ADF program (Chapter 342G, Part VII, HRS) is a statewide glass recovery program designed to divert glass from the waste stream towards recycling. The ADF program is separate from the state’s Deposit Beverage Container (DBC) Program (Chapter 342G, Part VIII, HRS) and only applies to non-deposit beverage glass.

Lead-Acid Battery Recycling

Chapter 342I, HRS prohibits disposal of lead acid batteries in household rubbish, in landfills, or discarded on public and private properties, grounds, or waters. Instead,
these batteries must be delivered to battery retailers/wholesalers, or to collection or recycling facilities permitted by the Department of Health.

Used Tires

Chapter 342I, Part II, HRS prohibits the disposal of whole motor vehicle tires at municipal and private landfills, and the abandonment of whole motor vehicle tires on
public and private properties, grounds, or waters. Instead, used whole motor vehicle tires must be delivered to tire retailers/wholesalers, or tire collection facilities or tire
recyclers permitted by the Department of Health (department). According to Chapter 342I-21, HRS, motor vehicle tires are “any tire that is used or designed for use on a motorized vehicle including but not limited to an automobile, bus, motorcycle, truck or heavy equipment.”
