Subject: Invitation: June 27 Interpreter Webinar – Deliberate Practice & Terp Introduction
Date: Saturday, June 27, 2026
Time: 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM (HST)
Format: Zoom Webinar (registration required)

Speaker: Professor Devin Gilbert:
About the Webinar
This session will introduce foundational principles of deliberate practice for interpreters and provide an overview of Terp, an online practice and collaboration platform.
During the session, we will:
- Discuss how deliberate practice helps interpreters build expertise
• Explain how participants can form communities of practice and give structured feedback
• Help attendees develop individual and group plans for the next 3–4 months
• Provide an introduction to Terp’s features and explain how it will support practice groups over the coming months
Participants will also be invited to form or join language‑specific groups so they may continue collaborating between webinars.
Access to Terp (IMPORTANT)
The Hawai‘i State Office of Language Access (OLA) will cover the cost of a limited number of Terp accounts for webinar participants.
AFTER registering via Zoom, participants will receive:
• Instructions on how to sign up for a Terp account
- A video tutorial created specifically for this project (prepared by Terp)
- Directions for joining the Hawai‘i OLA Terp Community and your language‑specific Sub‑Community (created by Terp)
To ensure accounts go to those who will actively use them, participants will be asked to apply for an OLA‑funded Terp account. We encourage at least 2–4 applicants per language so each language has enough members for a strong community of practice.
Those who choose not to apply for an OLA-funded Terp account may still:
• Attend the webinar
• Learn about deliberate practice
• Obtain their own Terp subscription later, if desired, and join a practice community
Zoom Registration Requirement
To attend, you must register for the Zoom webinar. After registering in Zoom, the Zoom link email will provide Terp sign-up instructions. Each participant will be asked to identify which language community you are requesting within Terp. Please read the instructions to ensure you are familiar with Terp in advance, which significantly improves the workshop experience. All pariticpants MUST register in Terp by June 24 (Wednesday) in order to participate directly in the Terp experience portion of the webinar.
