Hawai’i Trauma System Overview

In 2006, the State of Hawai‘i established a dedicated Trauma System Special Fund through the passage of Hawai‘i Revised Statute (HRS) §321-22.5, laying the foundation for a coordinated, statewide approach to trauma care.

Governance

The trauma system is overseen by the Emergency Medical Services and Injury Prevention Systems Branch (EMSIPSB), which is responsible for managing and coordinating trauma services across the state in collaboration with hospitals, providers, and partners.

Mission

To reduce the burden of trauma in Hawai’i through collaborative programs of injury prevention, optimal treatment, research, and education.

Vision

To ensure all trauma patients within the State of Hawai’i receive quality comprehensive trauma care aligned with national trauma standards.
