Thank you for choosing to submit a product for consideration for the approved food list of the Hawaii WIC Program!

The Hawaii WIC Program strives to provide a reasonable selection of nutritious foods within each category and will consider the client’s nutritional needs, client cultural preferences, cost, and consistency with sound food buying practices, and state and program-wide availability.  The Hawaii WIC Food Package Committee evaluates product information submitted for review and determines the selection of the authorized foods for the WIC Program in Hawaii in accordance with the WIC Policy and Procedure Manual (Attachment 1 – P&P 911.1).

If you are interested in having products considered for inclusion on the Hawaii WIC Approved Food List, requests must be received by January 1, 2021.The following is the process for authorization of food products for the Hawaii WIC Program:

1. If you wish to submit a food for consideration, submit a written request for authorization of a product by January 1, 2021.

2. The submitter shall furnish the Hawaii WIC Program with the food company’s summary of current distribution in writing and shall include, but not be limited to:

  • Product Name
  • Product Sizes
  • Shelf price (in Hawaii)
  • Product flats or labels for each product (may be submitted as pdf file with readable nutrient facts and ingredients)
  • Summary of current distribution in Hawaii (store names & locations)
  • Identification of wholesaler(s) carrying the product

3. Foods and their packaging shall be evaluated by the Food Selection Committee (FSC) based on the following factors:

  • Nutritional Requirements
  • Acceptability of Foods
  • Availability of Foods
  • Cost
  • Package size and ability to reach maximum monthly allowance

Submission does not guarantee that the product(s) submitted will appear on the Hawaii WIC Program Food List.  The Hawaii WIC Program reserves the right to change the approved food list at any time.
