Pediatric Mental Health Care Access

Pediatric Mental Health Care Access (PMHCA) Grant

In 2021, through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Bureau, the Family Health Services Division was awarded the 5-year Pediatric Mental Health Care Access (PMHCA) grant. The PMHCA grant is focused on establishing statewide or regional networks of pediatric mental health teams to promote the integration of primary care and behavioral health to build workforce capacity.

With teleconsultation, training, technical assistance, and care coordination support services, the PMHCA program is designed to help pediatric primary care and other providers have the confidence, knowledge, and skill to identify, diagnose, and provide treatment for children ages 0-21 with mild to moderate behavioral health conditions.

By utilizing telehealth modalities and evidence-based practices, the program aims to deliver high-quality and timely care to children and adolescents, while also addressing racial, ethnic, and geographic disparities in access to care, particularly in underserved areas.

The Hawaiʻi PMHCA program is focused on accomplishing the following three deliverables:

1. Provide Training to pediatric providers
on behavioral health topics

2. Create a Teleconsultation Warmline
for pediatric providers to access curbside
consult from a child psychiatrist
