Success Stories

Across the Hawaiian archipelago and the rest of the United States, community groups are making strides in NPS pollution reduction through Clean Water Act Section 319 funding distributed by the Surface Water Protection Branch. The EPA highlights restoration efforts in its “Success Stories” series, detailing the progress and results of NPS reduction projects.

Although NPS pollution presents a broad and constant challenge, each successful project can reduce NPS pollutant discharges into State waters by thousands of pounds per year. Furthermore, restoration projects provide indirect benefits such as increasing habitat for native animals, providing jobs in the conservation field, and rallying communities around common goals.

Below are just a few examples of successful Section 319-funded projects.
