Are You or A Loved One at Risk for Opioid Dependence?

Posted on Oct 26, 2019 in Ola Lokahi

If you are taking prescription opioid or narcotic pain medication, you could be at risk for opioid dependence and not even know it.

The Hawai‘i Opioid Initiative’s awareness campaign encourages adults to find out their risk for opioid dependence by answering a few easy questions at www.HawaiiOpioid.org. Advertisements are currently airing on Hawai‘i News Now stations and on digital platforms through Nov. 24.

Did you know that opioid dependence can happen in less than a week?

The online questionnaire provides useful online resources based on your score, such as information on safer ways to treat pain, how to prevent an overdose, and treatment options that are available in Hawai‘i. By providing an optional email address, your responses will be emailed to you to facilitate a conversation with your doctor or health care provider.

Visit www.HawaiiOpioid.org to learn your risk today, and share the link with your family and friends. Responses and email addresses are kept completely confidential.

Also, remember to keep medications locked away and out of reach of children. To find out where you can safely dispose of medications, visit www.HawaiiOpioid.org/Drug-Take-Back/
