HONOLULU — The Hawaiʻi Department of Health (DOH) responded to a contained release of approximately 300 gallons of fuel at an underground fuel pump house located on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. There is no ongoing risk to public health or the environment. The release was not related to closure activities conducted by Navy Closure Task Force-Red Hill.

Navy Supply Systems Command Fleet Logistics Center Pearl Harbor reported that the release occurred on July 1 during maintenance of a fuel line used for active fueling operations. The DOH responded to the release at approximately 1:30 p.m. on July 1 and returned to the release site today, July 2, to verify clean-up efforts, which are expected to be completed today.

The DOH confirmed that the fuel release was contained to concrete and appeared to be recovered without any impact to the surrounding environment. The release did not occur near an underground source of drinking water.
