Department of Public Safety

Inmate and Staff Testing Continues

The Halawa Correctional Facility (HCF) reported 78 more inmate test results as part of surge testing efforts. Of that total, 20 were positive and 58 were negative. The facility is reporting 54 more inmate recoveries bringing the total active positive inmate cases down to 241. There are seven (7) inmates hospitalized. There was one (1) new positive HCF staff case reported. Surge testing, with the assistance of DOH, the Hawai‘i National Guard and Project Vision Hawai‘i, will continue at HCF until there are no new positive cases at the facility. All other facilities that experienced outbreaks have brought their COVID-19 count under control. The O‘ahu Community Correctional Center (OCCC) has zero active positive inmate cases in the facility. There was one (1) new positive OCCC staff case reported.

Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority:

12,426 Passengers Arrived on Monday

Yesterday, a total of 12,426 people arrived in Hawai‘i from out of state. A total of 6,154 people indicated they came to Hawai‘i for vacation. There were also 2,407 returning residents. The trans-Pacific passenger arrival data is derived from data provided by the Safe Travels digital system.Reason for Trip by Arrival Dec. 28
