Treatment Approach

At Kealahou Services Program, our treatment approach is guided by the principles of trauma informed care and gender responsive practice.  Staff are trained to understand the impact of trauma on a girl’s life, recognize the symptoms of trauma that may manifest in a girl, and interact with girls in a way that avoids retraumatizing them and supports their healing. Emphasis is placed on “what has happened to the youth” rather than “what is wrong with the youth.” Kealahou Services Program works with girls in a relationship-based way to promote mutual respect and empathy. Treatment plans are individualized and based on the girl’s presenting needs, current community and family supports, and the strengths and interests of the girl.

Clinical Staff provide individualized supports which may include, but are not limited to:

  • Supportive Counseling
  • Psychoeducation about trauma
  • Linkage to community youth support and resources
  • Facilitation of youth and family voice throughout treatment
