WASTEWATER BRANCH
The Wastewater Branch of the Kauai District Health Office is involved in engineering functions related to the installation of septic systems and cesspools, otherwise known as individual water systems (IWS). The Wastewater Branch regulates use of septic systems and cesspools on Kauai including the review of wastewater system plans as well as review of county permits for structures served by IWS. The goal of the Wastewater Branch is to protect public health and the environment.
The Wastewater Branch at the Kauai District Health Office does the following:
Answers public record requests for records of IWS (cesspools/septic locations, etc.)
Reviews new IWS design plans for compliance with HAR 11-62
Reviews county building permits for compliance with HAR 11-62
Investigates wastewater complaints
