The Disease Investigation section of the Kauai District Health Office works closely with the State of Hawaii Department of Health’s Disease Investigation Branch, Immunization Branch, and Public Health Preparedness Branch to monitor, investigate, prevent, and control infectious diseases. This program serves the community in partnership with healthcare providers, laboratories, hospitals, schools, and other public and private organizations.

Reporting an Illness

As mandated by Hawaii Administrative Rules (HAR), Title 11, Department of Health, Chapter 156, Communicable Diseases, certain infectious diseases are reportable in Hawaii. Healthcare providers caring for a person with a diagnosis, or provisional diagnosis in the absence of definitive test results for confirmation, shall notify the State of Hawaii Department of Health.
