Ambient Air Monitoring Network 5-Year Assessment

The Department of Health plans, operates, and maintains the statewide ambient air quality monitoring network. Ambient air monitoring data is submitted to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA)
AirNow website which reports air quality using the Air Quality Index (AQI). This data is used to determine compliance with National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS), to track and characterize air quality trends, evaluate emission control strategies, and to support health studies.

40 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 58 requires that a network assessment of the air quality surveillance system be conducted once every five years to determine if the network is effective and efficient in meeting monitoring objectives, whether new sites are needed or existing sites or monitors can be terminated and whether there are new technologies that can be incorporated.
