Air Monitoring Network Plans

The Department of Health plans, operates, and maintains the statewide ambient air quality monitoring network. Ambient air monitoring data is submitted to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA)
AirNow website which reports air quality using the Air Quality Index (AQI). This data is used to determine compliance with National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS), to track and characterize air quality trends, evaluate emission control strategies, and to support health studies.

This annual review evaluates the state’s existing ambient air monitoring network to determine adequacy in meeting monitoring objectives, optimizing the network by adding new, relocating, or discontinuing stations, ensuring that air quality issues important to the state are being addressed, and that the quality assured data meets the needs of stakeholders.
