Hawaii Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System – OLD

The national BRFSS is the world’s largest ongoing telephone survey of randomly selected adults, aged 18 years or older, that tracks health risks and health behaviors. The national BRFSS at CDC provides the randomly selected phone numbers. Participating states and US territories conduct the telephone survey following the national BRFSS guidance and protocols. Results for the nation as well as for the individual states and US territories can be found at the CDC’s website.

We gratefully acknowledge and thank the BRFSS interviewers and people of Hawaii who have graciously participated in this survey since 1986.

The BRFSS is a dynamic health surveillance system that adapts with changing technology and communication environment. Recent improvements to the BRFSS survey are the use of dual sampling frame (landline and cell phone) and iterative proportional weighting methodology (raking) as of calendar year 2011. The Hawaii BRFSS results using these improvements are available starting the year2011.

In using information on this web site, earlier year results and statistics cannot be compared with those of year 2011 onwards due to the improvements implemented in 2011.
